“Bad to the Bone” is a song by George Thorogood and the Destroyers released in 1982 on the album of the same name.
… The song’s roots can be traced back to rock and roll musician Bo Diddley’s song “I’m a Man”, which uses a similar guitar riff and vocal rhythm, and has a similar overall structure, as well as Muddy Waters’s “Mannish Boy” or “Hoochie Coochie Man” and Johnny “Guitar” Watson’s “Gangster of Love”. The riff is also very similar to the one from Chuck Berry’s song “No Money Down” as well as Elvis Presley’s “Trouble”.
The formula bad to the bone has been picked up as the title of at least two movies, in 1997 and in 2011, and possibly thanks to the song, has been put to a number of other purposes, among them:
as the name of barbecue restaurants in a number of places: Bad to the Bone BBQ in San Juan Capistrano CA; Bad to the Bone BBQ restaurant in Williamson NY (on Lake Ontario); Bad to the Bone Smokehouse in Gainesville VA (in northern Virginia); Lucille’s Bad to the Bone BBQ in Boca Raton and Boynton Beach FL; and no doubt other places
in the name of Bad to the Bone Endurance Sports, sponsoring running and biking events, in Charlottesville VA
in the name of Bad to the Bone Outfitters, running white tail deer hunts, in Fulton Co. IL
